Primary Job Function:

The instructor will teach General, Airframe, or Powerplant curriculum, or a combination of these competencies as required under Part 147 of the Federal Aviation Regulations. The instructor will be required to provide students with classroom and hands-on experience that meet the standards of -and comply with- the requirements established by the Federal Aviation Administration. The instructor will maintain an organized classroom and ensure that the lab is OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) compliant and adheres to their practices

JOB DUTIES

Major Task 1

 

Duties:

  • Utilize innovative, effective, and equitable teaching techniques 
  • Develop and continually refine an innovative, industry-standards based program that prepares students for Aviation occupations and continuing education.
  • Prepare students to pass the107 Drone Pilot, OSHA10, Hearing & Noise Protection, Head,  Starrett/Snap-on Precision Measuring Instruments Certification, Airframe, and Powerplant credentials while in high school.
  • Work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, gender identities, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Design, plan and deliver relevant lessons using the course of study and the State of Ohio Content Standards in Aviation.

  • Prepare all students to take the General, Airframe and Powerplant written test to become licensed A&P mechanics. 
  • Collaborate with other instructors and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of the Aviation Maintenance Technician  program
  • Implement an effective recruitment plan for the Aviation Maintenance Technician  program that yields sustained student enrollment and positive student outcomes
  • Implement and monitor work placement, job shadowing, and/or internships for all students. 
  • Create and be actively involved with the Advisory Committee
  • Attend seminars and meetings to remain current in the field and meet ODE requirements for licensure. 
  • Organize and implement appropriate safety precautions in the Aviation lab.  

Major Task 2

  Maintain an active advisory committee with the required composition of membership and hold a minimum of two documented meetings annually. 
    • Develop positive relationships with business and industry representatives
Maintain appropriate student records, i.e., grades, attendance, work placements, post-secondary outcomes, and industry credential data, etc.Meet all deadlines related to job functions.

General Duties: Instruction of Aviation outcomes to all students, producing CTE outcomes for students in industry credential attainment, Work-based learning placements and opportunities, WebXam administration, and post program placements.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Education and Certification: 

  • Hold Ohio Certification /Licensure CTWD 170401 (Aircraft Maintenance) and/or 170400 (Aviation Occupations)
    • or have the ability to obtain based on the Ohio Department of Education’s Licensing requirements for Career-Technical Education which will require college coursework
  • Must possess an FAA Powerplant/Airframe Rating, with Inspection Authorization preferred

Specific Job-Related Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field preferred with at least two (2) years experience in the field or 5 or more recent/current years work experience as an Aviation Mechanic or closely related field based on the Ohio Department of Education’s Licensing requirements for Career-Technical Education

Driving Requirement: This job description does not require the incumbent to drive; however, any employee who chooses or is asked to drive a TPS vehicle for work-related community business must receive written annual authorization to do so.

Terms of Employment: This position is treated as a full-time exempt position. 

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and extensive fingerprint and background check. Employee is subject to completion of a background check every five (5) years. 

Employee is required to maintain valid licensure through the Ohio Department of Education.
